home - development - map - nature - local services - attractions - photos About Howler Mountain, Tambor, Costa Rica Howler Mountain is located directly behind the 'Hotel Playa Tambor' and the landing strip on the Nicoya Peninsular. It has 360 hectares, 64 of which are primary forest. The topography is varied and ranges from pasture land to hills. From the 'mirador' there is an incredible view of the whole of the south of the peninsular and across the gulf to Puntarenas. There is a river and many brooks, also several fresh water mountain springs and approximately 6 waterfalls. A special feature is the stunning 150 meter waterfall. (See photos). There are both incredible ocean and valley views. An abundance of fruits, vegetables and wildlife. 140 different types of birds, 40 different types of butterfly, orchids, precious woods and 1 hectare of teak. An inventory has been completed. The highest point of 800 meters, is cooler than down at sea level which is a few minutes drive. The beach is a huge calm horseshoe shaped bay called ‘Bahia Ballena’ or ‘Whale Bay’, a long beautiful sandy beach where the warm water is ideal for safe swimming. |
